Specialized S-Works Epic 9 Full Suspension Mountain Bike Description:
The Specialized S-Works Epic 9 uses decades of full suspension development to produce a very capable and ridiculously fast mountain bike. Starting with the FACT 12M full carbon frame and swing arm, the engineers at Specialized replaced the integrated SWAT downtube storage with a removable SWAT Box and optimized the construction of the bottom bracket, seat tube, and linkages to shave weight where they could while actually improving the stiffness and durability of the front triangle. They also refined the geometry to improve the rider’s ability to generate power and to create a balanced riding position, and flip chips within the rear suspension allows the ability to fine tune the bottom bracket clearance and handling characteristics. The suspension guru’s then went to work to revise the suspension kinematics to reduce friction throughout the system, which makes it easier for the Ride Dynamics optimized RockShox SIDLuxe Ultimate rear shock to match the buttery smooth suspension travel of the RockShox SID Ultimate suspension fork up front.
An amazing frame and suspension package deserves an equally amazing list of parts, and the S-Works Epic 9 does not disappoint. Fast and precise wireless electronic shifting is provided by SRAM’s flagship XX SL Eagle Transmission drivetrain which delivers a broad gear range so the rider has plenty of gearing for any trail. A Quarq power meter is integrated within the chainring to transfer real time data that can be used to optimize a training regime and race-day tactics. Lightweight Roval World Cup carbon fiber wheels have a combination of proven DT Swiss 180 hub internals and trick carbon fiber spokes to produce unreal speed and surprising durability, and they are wrapped in Specialized Fast Trak/Air Trak tires for predictable handling, speed, and traction. The riders hands will fall on a Roval Control SL integrated cockpit with a great balance of compliance and stiffness, and finally, a Specialized S-Works Power Evo Mirror Saddle is perched on top of a wireless, electronically controlled RockShox Reverb dropper seatpost that puts the saddle in an optimal position for the given terrain at the touch of a button. Combine the amazing S-Works Epic 9 frame with those incredible parts, and the result is an integration of performance that will enable the rider to reach their full potential on the race track and trails.
Features:
- Innovative carbon fiber full suspension XC/Downcountry mountain bike spec’d with state of the art suspension tuning and a full wireless electronic SRAM XX SL Eagle Transmission Drivetrain
- Progressive XC geometry uses lessons learned through decades of biomechanical research, bike fittings, and the feedback from sponsored/professional racers to put the rider in a very powerful and balanced riding position
- Flip Chip in the rear suspension design allows the geometry of the bike to be tailored to suit the performance preferences of the rider and/or to be optimized for different trail conditions
- Refined kinematics offers significantly less friction within the suspension system for improved efficiency, faster suspension bump reactions leading to improved capability, and more speed for each watt pushed through the pedals
- Optimizing the bottom bracket, shock linkage design, using lighter hardware, and size optimized seattube designs contribute to removing approximately 206 grams off of an already lightweight S-Works specific FACT 12m full carbon frame and rear swingarm
- Removing the integrated SWAT downtube storage found in the front triangle of the previous generation further reduces the weight of the bike and adds stiffness to the front triangle for pin-point handling and better durability
- Included SWAT Box 2.0 provides cargo room for nutrition, flat repair material, or other essentials, and when bolted on it lowers the bikes center of gravity for better control and handling
- Attach the SWAT Box 2.0 when heading out for a fun day on the trails with friends, and then remove it on race day to lighten the bike for a competitive edge
- 120mm front and rear suspension travel confidently conquers XC/XCO race tracks and technical “down-country” trails
- SID Ultimate w/Flight Attendant and Ride Dynamics designed 3-position settings includes a wireless remote operation for dual remote control of front and rear shocks
- RockShox SIDLuxe Ultimate w/Flight Attendant has a Ride-Dynamics rear shock tune that also offers 3 distinct settings: Wide Open for downhill schenanigans, Magic Middle for optimal efficiency and pedaling performance over most terrain, and Sprint-On-Lock for climbing and the finishing sprint to the line
- SRAM XX SL transmission drivetrain provides very quick and precise shifts, even under load, and can be connected to SRAM’s AXS app for shifting performance customization and diagnostics
- Quarq power meter is integrated into the chainring of the SRAM XX SL crank to deliver data the rider can use to monitor the progress of their training and race-day power output
- SRAM Motive Ultimate 4-piston hydraulic disc brakes have the ability to be adjusted to fit a wide range of hand sizes and preferences, and when paired with 180mm/160mm rotors these brakes deliver exceptional power and control in all trail and weather conditions
- Roval Control World Cup Carbon wheels combine a wide and shallow rim, trick carbon fiber straight pull spokes, and DT Swiss 180-based hubs to produce incredibly lightweight and fast rolling wheels
- Specialized Fast Trak and Air Trak tires have a supple sidewall and low rolling resistance that delivers confident speed over a variety of terrain
- Roval Control SL Integrated Cockpit combines the stem and handlebar together to produce an optimized balance of stiffness and comfort
- RockShox Reverb AXS seatpost can be raised for a stable climbing and sprinting platform, or lowered at the touch of a button to give the rider room to move around the cockpit when facing a technical trail section
- Premium Specialized S-Works Power EVO Mirror saddle delivers comfort, durability, and plenty of support for those long days in the saddle
