Specialized Crux 5 Sport Gravel Bike Description:
The Specialized Crux 5 Sport Gravel Bike delivers incredible speed and comfort at a price that leaves money in the budget for the expenses associated with going to gravel events/races. Specialized engineers set out to improve the aerodynamics and refine the handling performance of their purpose built gravel racing platform while retaining the smooth ride and lightweight that made the 4th generation Crux platform a fan favorite; mission accomplished! Tube shapes inspired by the Tarmac SL8 road bike are blended with a gravel specific geometry and generous tire clearance to improve the aerodynamic efficiency by 50% over the previous generation of Crux, and as an additional benefit those tube shapes effectively disperse loads and stress more effectively, allowing the engineers to further optimize the FACT 10r carbon fiber construction to create a lightweight and very smooth riding structure. The S-Works carbon fiber fork also has a more aerodynamic shape to the legs, and like the frame, the tire clearance has been boosted so this bike will now accept up to 700x55mm wide (or 29″x2.2″ wide) tires.
Specialized has taken this incredible foundation and has added parts that perfectly compliment the ride and performance of the frameset. A Shimano GRX 820 1×12 speed mechanical drivetrain delivers reliable shifting performance and a broad gear range so a rider can find a comfortable gear for almost any trail and elevation, and this drivetrain is inexpensive and easy to maintain. Shimano also provides the easy to modulate and powerful GRX 820 hydraulic disc brakes that simply work anywhere and anytime a speed check needs to be performed. Rugged DT Swiss rims and spokes laced to Specialized sealed bearing hubs are shod with Pathfinder tubeless to provide a durable, fast, and smooth rolling package. Last but not least, an Adventure Gear handlebar wrapped in Supacaz tape and a Body Geometry Power Sport saddle provide luxurious perches where the body contacts the bike and will ensure the rider can focus all of their attention and energy on getting down the road and trails as fast as possible.
Features:
- Aerodynamic and lightweight gravel racing-style bike, with the frame tipping the scales at only 897g for the Carbon 10r frames (one full water bottle)
- Using decades of aero research, borrowing tube shaping developed for the Tarmac SL8, and optimizing the carbon layup to eliminate unnecessary material produces a bike that is light, strong, smooth riding, and is significantly more aero than the previous version
- S-Works FACT Carbon fork uses a thin tear drop shape with a flat trailing edge that improves aerodynamics and torsional stiffness, while also absorbing minute vibrations and dulling impacts to reduce rider fatigue
- Progressive gravel geometry improves balance on the bike by using a longer reach with a shorter stem, a slightly slacker head tube angle, lower bottom bracket height, and a slightly steeper seat tube angle for more efficient power generation
- Frame and fork have generous tire clearance, fitting up to 700 x 55mm or 29″ x 2.2″ wide tires (depending on tire and rim combination)
- Shimano GRX RX820 mechanical drivetrain delivers a broad 1 x 12speed gear range, precise shifting, and low maintenance costs
- Shimano GRX RX820 hydraulic disc brakes are easy to modulate and have plenty of power to control the bikes speed in any trail or weather conditions
- Rugged, tubeless ready DT Swiss G500 wheels combine a sturdy alloy rim with sealed bearing thru axle hubs for a combination that provides excellent support for wider tires and low maintenance so there is more time for riding
- Specialized Pathfinder tires are tubeless ready and are designed to deliver a very smooth ride and incredible speeds especially over paved and/or hardpacked surfaces
- Lightweight Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL8 Carbon Seatpost features an aerodynamic shape and will dull vibrations transmitted up from the road/trail
- Specialized Power Sport saddle provides a comfortable and supportive surface, and a pronounced pressure relief groove in the middle of the saddle prevents numbness especially during long bike rides
- Specialized Adventure Gear handlebar combines a comfortable handlebar shape with a 12° flare, producing a handlebar that delivers excellent bike control and a bit of extra room to clear front mounted bags
- Supacaz bar tape adds a stylish hint of premium comfort and all weather grip
