Schwalbe Romy PRO Radial Tubeless Mountain Tire Description:
The Schwalbe Romy PRO Radial Tubeless Mountain Tire is a versatile, lighter weight tire that fills the gap between all-mountain tires and hard-core enduro/gravity specific tires. Low-profile central knobs roll efficiently and are shaped and spaced so they can effectively self-clean themselves of mud and debris; robust shoulder blocks dig into the ground and deliver reliable cornering traction. The performance of that tread profile is optimized through the use of revamped the rubber compounds that have improved damping qualities and grippiness than the compounds that they replace. Inside, the radially aligned casing materials are arraigned in a more obtuse angle which allows the tread to more easily conform to the terrain and increases the tread patterns contact over a larger area, all while maintaining the same control, flat prevention, and stability as a conventional tire. Best of all, this tire is available with two different casing options, two different tread compound options, and 27.5″ and 29″ wheel options so it is much easier to find a version of this tire to suit any rider’s needs and/or performance preferences.

- Alternating central knob placement and shapes deliver great traction for propulsion and stopping, and are spaced far enough that they can effectively self-clean themselves from mud and other trail debris
- Robust shoulder knobs dig into the ground to produce confident and predictable handling
- Radial carcass threads are arranged at a more obtuse angle compared to conventional carcass construction resulting in a tire that has significantly more contact area with the ground, producing outstanding traction along with a less bouncy, smoother ride
- Material used within the radial carcass has less tension and shorter overlaps for increased tire flexibility that adapts more quickly to uneven terrain without compromising control
- Two new tread compounds have been introduced for PRO series tires:
- Soft compound is a firmer compound that receives improvements in damping and grip compared to the ADDIX Soft compound that it replaces, and is a balanced choice for comfort, traction, and longevity
- Mid compound is the firmest compound offered on the Romy with improvements to the damping and grip compared to the ADDIX SpeedGrip compound it replaces, and it delivers a comfortable ride along with the best rolling efficiency and durability
- All PRO tire compounds use 100% Fair Rubber, and recycled carbon black (from Schwalbe’s in house tire recycling program) as part of Schwalbe’s sustainability efforts
- Two different radial casing variants are available:
- Gravity casings have 6 layers under the tread, 4 layers in the sidewall, and additional burping protection within the bead, creating a very stable tire with excellent cut, impact/pinch flat, and puncture protection
- Trail casing reduces the layers used in the construction to reduce weight and to create a smoother riding tire, but is still puncture and impact flat resistant, making this a great casing for riders that ride uphill and still want to retain the ability to fly downhill
- Either casing option has a Snake Skin fabric layer for improved cut and puncture protection, and an additional Apex layer towards the bead of the tire for enhanced stability
- Revised label on the sidewall cleans up the aesthetics and makes the tire information much easier to read and understand
